Windows Backup

Microsoft have added a feature called “Windows Backup” to Windows and have probably been prompting you to “Let’s back up your PC”.

We recommend that you do not follow the prompts to back up your PC using this method because IT IS NOT A TRUE BACKUP. What it really does is just sync your folders to OneDrive. At best it will just fill up your OneDrive and then most likely ask you to pay for more storage. At worst it will make a mess of your documents and desktop and possibly sync them to other PC’s signed into the same OneDrive.

It can also prevent you from sending emails from your Microsoft email addresses when OneDrive fills up.

If you would like to back up your important documents and photos we can assist you in setting something up, from a manual or scheduled backup to an external hard drive through to a fully automated solution backing up to an external backup device or a third party cloud backup provider. (not OneDrive).
